Hey There. So here it is, my first blog post.
This is really amazing. I've been wanting to create a legit blog ever since I learned about their existence and honestly, I don't know why it's taken me so long. Its probably because I've been searching for the right subject that I can spend hours on end writing about, so let me tell you a little about who I am, how I got here, and a bit about what I'll be writing about.
Let me introduce myself. I am Sarah Garcia Cano, entrepreneurship and entertainment management major, recent graduate (CLASS OF 2017-woot woot!), and Music crazed fan.
My musical life began as a child where most of my time was spent going to concerts. My very first concerts I remember clearly were Barry Manilow, Kenny Rogers, and Hilary Duff (yes, Hilary was my personal favorite). As seen though, my musical influence never delved from one direction, I always listen to everything my family listens to- Mom listened to oldies like Frankie Vali and Spanish music, Dad listened to R&B, Country and Classic Rock, my brother has now grown into Punk and Rap, and I got into basically everything else. I was also a band geek -clarinet player for 8 years- so I often found myself just analyzing things I listened to.
I have always felt that you can tell a lot about a person by their music taste evolution, so I will share mine with you:
Queen- clearest voice and guitar I still remember from my childhood
Wham and Culture Club- you can tell my parents grew up in the 80s
Paul McCartney-Back in the US released and that's all I heard in the house
The Eagles/ Don Henley- Hell Freezes Over concert film in my house
The Disney Phase (Hilary Duff, Aly and AJ, Miley Cyrus, The Brothers Jonas...i was one of "those fangirls")
Michael Jackson- he died. everyone was talking about him. I obsessed.
The Beatles for literally 3 years- John Lennon was my hero until I recognized George
The Monkees and Bubblegum Pop
One Direction aka Mainly Harry Styles, don't judge
Laurel Canyon (Joni Mitchell, The Byrds, CSNY, The Doors, Mamas and Papas)
The Eagles
Rolling Stones, Zeppelin, and Pink Floyd
Glam 70s Rock-Bowie, Bolan
So like I said, my taste came from everywhere. I'm naturally a musical melting pot.
My life mainly consists of crafting, sewing, knitting and crocheting while listening to 100.3 The Sound, watching rock docs, reading history books, purchasing tickets to some rare "oldies" concerts, and hunting thrift shops collecting albums. I am currently living the baby boomer life. Recently, I realized my life is consumed by twenty-year-old versions of seventy-year-old men, and I am perfectly fine with this. Luckily, after some research and a new Tumblr account, I discovered I was not the only person living this life- thank God! There is literally an entire fandom of people online still obsessing over these people- and who can blame them, these rockstars are perfect and timeless.
So after graduating college and majoring in entertainment management-the closest thing to music in a business school- I ventured into the music world. I worked at a Jazz studio and concert promotions company and after all of this, I still wanted to learn more about myself and my passions- this is where you find me... starting a blog exploring my greatest passions I have ever had in my twenty-something years of life: music and fashion.
So follow me and let's see where I'm headed next as we explore "The Style of Rock" and what kind of influence music plays in society...
