ATTENTION ROCK AND ROLLERS,
It's that time of year again: Halloween! The one day of the year when you can be anything your heart desires, including revealing your ultimate rock star selves.
Some of my favorite costumes are those that require the least amount of money and the most imagination. Usually I start with a search in my closet to see what works with my personal style, then I continue to the thrift shops, and finally end at a Halloween store, in case I do have to spend more money for final touches.
So here's a list of some of my favorite recognizable rock star and musician costumes that you can prepare last minute this weekend- YES, time flies very fast!
DISCLAIMER: These costumes require a little more exaggeration to get the point across because otherwise these looks are easily simplified everyday looks, so just go crazy and have a little more fun than your everyday shopping trip.
And AWAYYYYY WE GO!
Stevie Nicks
Stevie is a very easy costume and many of her pieces can be found in your closet alone. Find a black tank top, long black skirt, sock boots, a long scarf to wear and wave, and finally a top hat- okay so this might be a Halloween shop pick-up. Her makeup is fairly simple, and hair has a nice and easy 70s wave.
Steven Tyler
Steven Tyler is all about the layers. Wear cool colorful shirts, jeans, many scarves, painted nails, and rocker jewelry. Let your hair go wild and clip in some feathers to add that final Steven Tyler vibe.
Keith Richards
Dress very British and stylish. You can wear a nice floral blouse and jeans,a tee with a cool rock star quote or a "Keith Richards for President" pic(found one of these for $10 at K-mart, and some crazy funky striped pants. Some final add-ons are belts, aviator sunglasses, a cigarette, and the Jack Daniels bottle. Take it to the next level by walking with an actual guitar too!
Slash and Axl
More of a quick couples idea, but even alone it is very easy to be either one. Once again, this is a closet piece. Get some tight leather leggings or black skinny jeans, Your best rock band tee, leather boots, a leather or jean jacket, and let your hair run loose. Slash NEEDS the top hat and Axl NEEDS a bandanna. Wear your most hardcore accessories- studded bracelets, glasses, rings, necklaces, etc. And last but not least...the Jack Daniels!
Janis Joplin
Janis Joplin is the ultimate Hippie Chic. Get creative and search for the funkiest and most colorful pieces in your closet or at the thrift store. Her most recognizable pieces would be the boa and round glasses. Once again, like many of the previous costumes, over style- wear tons of necklaces, bracelets, a belt and let your hair literally do what it wants.
Sonny and Cher
This is the one costume that I found will take a bit more time. None of us are lucky enough to walk into Cher's closet everyday, so I had to explore some thrift stores, vintage stores, and costume shops. Costume stores make it much easier and provide you with the entire outfits and the wigs, but the clothing quality is not the best and is just as expensive as a nice dress and floral clothing at a thrift store. For Cher, wear a hippie headband, and for Sonny, wear that big 'ol mustache.

And last but not least- for all of these costumes- DO NOT forget about the attitude. It's all about the way you carry yourself. Get into character, walk the walk, talk the talk, and most of all, have fun!
